Living in bed alone with his thoughts for a companion
Talking to shadows on the wall
Another shot of vodka and a cry that cuts the darkness
Then there's a knock at the door
Standing in his hallway staring at the silouette on his porch

He turns on the porch light and she squints at the brightness
Then she smiles at the friendly face within

A friend from the past with a friendly face to greet him
She was as pretty as he recalled
The nervousness surrounds him and he hasn't even touched the door
Unlocking the barrier he lets her in

It's great to see you it's great to see you she said
He invited her in and made some joe
Offered her a smoke and lit it up for her
They relived the memories from years past

At 4:22 AM she said she had to leave
She apologized for coming so late at night
No apology needed he said as he walked her to her door
A hug and a kiss and she was gone

Now that she's gone he's alone with his thoughts again
And yet there is hope till she comes around to say hello again
